Adult supervision stays with this card

A responsible adult must supervise closely and constantly, stay within reach and avoid distractions whenever water is accessible. Follow the table and accessory instructions, age labels and warnings. Do not allow climbing, drinking the play water or access to small or damaged pieces. If supervision stops, end the activity and empty all water immediately.

Gather a few things

  • The assembled table and clean water
  • Two manufacturer-age-appropriate toy boats
  • A dry tray for the boats
  • A cloth for drips

The adult setup

An adult checks both boats for loose or damaged pieces and reads their water-use and age instructions. Use toys intended for this purpose; do not substitute stones, seeds or tiny household objects.

A simple sequence

  1. Place one boat gently in the water and look at how it sits.
  2. Place the second boat nearby without pushing either. Notice the shapes and movement.
  3. If the table instructions allow it, try a gentle pour into the water nearby and watch the boats move. Keep the water in the basin.

One question to explore

Do both boats respond the same way to the same gentle pour? “Different” is a useful observation.

Finish & put away

Remove the boats, empty all water and follow each toy’s cleaning and drying instructions. Check for trapped water before adult-controlled storage.
