Adult supervision stays with this card
A responsible adult must supervise closely and constantly, stay within reach and avoid distractions whenever water is accessible. Follow the table and accessory instructions, age labels and warnings. Do not allow climbing, drinking the play water or access to small or damaged pieces. If supervision stops, end the activity and empty all water immediately.
Gather a few things
- Assembled water table
- Two stable age-appropriate containers and a scoop
- Clean water added by an adult
- Cloth and adult-managed drainage route
The adult setup
The adult checks that the containers do not make the table unstable or obstruct any required drain access. Avoid large buckets and keep the setup within the table’s instructions.
A simple sequence
- Place the containers inside the basin and demonstrate moving a small scoop between them.
- Ask which one has more water now, without turning the activity into a test.
- Return the water to the basin and reset only if the child is still interested.
One question to explore
How many small scoops change what you can see? Count only if it adds interest.
Finish & put away
An adult empties the containers immediately, then the table. Clean and dry all pieces and remove access to water after play.
Original editorial design, not a hands-on trial. Preparation time is an estimate, not a play duration or developmental outcome. Adults should review, adapt or stop the activity as needed. No water beads, food dyes or tiny loose household materials are included.
Safety background: CDC supervision guidance and CPSC water-bead warning. This is an original plan, not an official agency activity.
